University of Oxford maintained the top spot in the latest Sunday Times University League Table 2011 (published on 12th September).

University of Warwick is ranked 8th in the UK and it continues to lead the field of Midlands universities, topping the Midlands region for each of every 13 years that guide has been published.

Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne has made significant improvements in the ranking, moving up nine places to 59th in 2011 and it sits comfortably in the top half of the Sunday Times ranking table, scores especially highly for graduate employment.

The league table is drawn up from a number of criteria including student satisfaction, teaching and research quality, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, academic peer review, student/staff ratios, graduate employability and university dropout rates.
